Max Romeo

Bio

Max Romeo was born in 1947 in Saint Ann in Jamaica and it is that during his adolescence that he comes to Kingston for his studies and discovers his passion for the music. In 1965 he recorded his first 45”. From this moment things accelerate, signing a contract with Bunny Lee, one of the biggest producer of that period in Jamaica, and the hit “Wet Dream” went out in 1969, giving Max Romeo an international success. An European tour consolidated him with his public in most big cities of Europe. He met the producer Lee Perry in 1972 evolving in a style towards reggae. The contract with Island Records brought to 2 albums that became very important for international image: “War inna Babylon” with the Upsetters in 1976 is one of his most famous tracks.

Then in full glory, Max Romeo leaves to the United States to work on diverse projects, moving back to Jamaica, returning regularly to studio at the end of 1990s. At the beginning of year 2000, 2 new albums are produced: “Perilous time” and “Something is wrong”. In 2004, he records “Little Time 4 Jah” in legendary Tuff Gong studios in Kingston. The clear and hard-hitting sound make this album one of the best of Max Romeo in these last years. The tour which follows together with Ethiopians meets a wide success with 37 European dates.
Since then Max Romeo made regularly European tours, with the last one in 2006.

Max Romeo is not tired at all of stage live and is back on tour for the biggest pleasure of us all!
